Targeted Intervention Program

WSS was allotted the Targeted Intervention Project for 300 FSW, 100 MSM and 100 IDUs at Etawah by U.P. State AIDS Control Society (UPSACS) Lucknow. The objectives of the TI project are:

To sensitize the beneficiaries on HIV/AIDS. The beneficiaries are high risk groups living and operating from slums or city areas. The aim of this project is to bring about a behavioral change in the beneficiaries towards safe sex practices to control and reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS in the district of Etawah. The beneficiaries in TI Project allotted to WSS are female sex workers, men having sex with men and intravenous drug users.

The following services are being rendered:

  • Identification and registration of HRGs
  • Providing STI and ICTC services
  • Outreach
  • Condom distribution
  • Activity for behavior change

The activities under TI project are:

The STI clinic provides free medical assistance to these beneficiaries, who constitute the high risk group. They are also linked with government run medical facilities. In addition to this, counseling center has been created to bring about a behavioral change in the beneficiaries which also caters to the needs of the beneficiaries whenever they are in emotional distress. Crisis management center has also been created to help the HRGs in case of police atrocities, domestic violence, and social exploitation. Regular events with the beneficiaries are also organized to create their trust in WSS. They are motivated to participate in cultural activities and other festivities to develop confidence in them.
