Child Labour
This is a relatively new intervention of WSS. It carried out a survey on child labour in four wards of Kannauj city from November 15 to December 5, 2007, leading to identification of 835 child labourers. These children are not attending any school and working in dangerous units.
A similar survey was carried out in four wards of Bilhaur tehsil of Kanpur Nagar district. This led to identification of 1,035 child labour. Like the child labourers in Kannauj city, these child labourers are also far away from schools and working in dangerous occupations.
Strategies are being formulated for intervention among child labourers.
Kishori Shakti Yojna
Kishori Shakti Yojana (KSY) seeks to empower adolescent girls, to enable them to take charge of their lives. It is viewed as a holistic initiative for the development of adolescent girls. The programme through its interventions aims at bringing about a difference in the lives of the adolescent girls. It seeks to provide them with an opportunity to realize their full potential. The broad objectives of the scheme are to improve the nutritional, health and development status of adolescent girls, promote awareness of health, hygiene, nutrition and family care, link them to opportunities for learning life skills, going back to school, help them gain a better understanding of their social environment and take initiatives to become productive members of the society. WSS implemented this scheme in district Kannauj.
Childline Project
With the support of Ministry of Woman and Child Development, Government of India, New Delhi, Child Line Foundation Mumbai, Warsi Sewa Sadan helped around 29 children to reach to their homes. The organisation through the medium of WCDS helped a good number of children to reach to their loved ones. The organisation arranged the medical checkup for the rescued children from the child labour.
